Nehzat Farnoody - Salehian, (born Dec 12, 1946) is an American- Iranian psychologist, with a specialty in Cross-Cultural Psychology. She is a clinical psychologist in private practice with an emphasis on the “NeuroScience Foundation of Behavior”. She is also a member of the American Psychologist Association and the Vice President of the Iranian American Psychological Association. She has been a host in many TV and Radio programs, in a psychological context. She is also an author and translator of several books and has published articles in many local magazines in Southern California.
Farnoody earned a B.A. in Psychology from Iran Girls’ College, in Iran, Tehran in 1968, an M.A. in Clinical Psychology from the Kansas State University of Emporia in 1972, and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, from the USIU United States International University, in 1975. Her dissertation was focused on “Attitudes towards Gender Equality Rights in Iran”. Previously the Associate Professor and Head of the department of psychology, and an honorary member of the university council of JSU (Jondi Shapour University), Dr. Nehzat Farnoody is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with a Specialty in Cross-Cultural Psychology. She is a clinical psychologist in private practice with an emphasis on the “NeuroScience Foundation of Behavior”.
Dr. Farnoody has provided over 30 years of community service activities, in Los Angeles California, in an effort to raise awareness on mental health, and has hosted several Media Literacy Programs, in helping families cope with cross-cultural conflicts. From 1989 to 1992, Dr. Farnoody hosted the first Iranian-American Radio and TV program on psychological topics, related to the needs of the Iranian-American community.
From 1995 to 2001 she hosted several radio and TV psychology media literacy programs, channels including – Radio Omid Iran – Radio 670 Am, - Andisheh TV – NI TV – Tasvir e Iran. And, since 2002 She also has been the host of a popular satellite TV Talk Show called, “Inner Sight (Negahi be Daroon)” on American Farsi Network (www.AFNL.com) where she had an opportunity to reach out, educate, and raise awareness on mental health and psychological principles of parenting and healthy families for the Iranian-Americans, as well as the Iranians living in the global community. She is been also publishing in magazines as –Rahavard -Mehregan -Simorgh -Payame Ashena - Iran Times -Kayhan of London.
Dr. Farnoody has presented at over 200 seminars, conferences, and lectures on psychological and socio-cultural topics such as Successful Relationships, Parenting, Healthy Families, Healthy Societies, The Psychology of Democracy, Psychology of Love, Emotional Intelligence and several other topics (see seminars). Since 1986 Dr. Farnoody has been a guest lecturer to prestigious Universities such as Brown University, UCLA, UC Berkeley, UCSD, John Hopkins University, and several others.
Also, she is a trained therapist in “Logotherapy”, by Dr. Victor Frankl, the founder of the method, a trained therapist in “Decision Therapy”, by Dr. Harrold Green Wall, and a trained “Client Center Therapy”, by Dr. Carol Roger, who she had the honor of being their students. She has also been a pioneer in implementing the “MMPI Test”, with adjunct professor Shamloo, and “Morgan Test”, both of which she translated and standardized.
She married Dr. Ahmad Farnoody who has Bs. and Ms. in Physics from the American University of Beirut, and Ph.D. from the USIU (United States International University), in Theoretical Counselling and is been the dean of the college of JSU (Jondi Shapour University) and adjunct professor of San Diego State University.
Dr. Farnoody has two children, Dr. Nelly Farnoody, who is a keynote speaker and a clinical psychologist, specialized in working with children and families, as well as Homayoon Farnoody, a local businessman. Currently, both are living in Southern California.
